GOP Wages War on True Meaning of Christmas

The Republican Party, the party supported by nearly 90% of evangelical Christians and an overwhelming majority of those who have “accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior,” those constantly pushing for “Religious Freedom” and bemoaning the “War On Christmas” and the evils of liberal secularism, are busy this Christmas season.

One would think, with all this self-proclaimed “Christianess” from the right, that even more than other times of the year, their policy pushes would be more Christ-like. But with less than 10 days before they celebrate the birth of their savior, this is what Trump and the GOP are pushing for the most right now:

  • Shutting down the government and taking salary away from middle class workers in order to force those same taxpayers to fund a wall to be built around our southern border.
  • Forcing the working poor and unemployed to work in order to receive SNAP (assistance buying food for themselves and their children).

Think about that for a moment… The “Christian Party” is running up to the celebration of the birth of their savior – the one whose family were brown-skinned refugees looking for shelter when he was born, and who spent his adult life telling his followers, “go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven” and “when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” – by spending billions of dollars to keep out brown-skinned refugees with children and by making those in need “earn” the help we give them because our country can’t afford to feed the poor.

On a regular basis, the GOP and the Trump-supporting GOP in particular, act more unChrist-like than the average person (and certainly less Christ-like than any secular liberal I know). But for them to be so focused on acting in direct opposition to his life and his life’s teachings at the same time they celebrate his birth in mind-boggling, and soul-draining.

They are the most ignorant, most arrogant, most hypocritical, and most simply greedy and cruel people I see in action. They are literally donating money to build a wall to keep our refugees like Jesus, while fighting to cut funding to feed the poor, while bemoaning the lack of Christian values in America and blaming “libtards” for a “War on Christmas.” Deplorable.

Happy holidays, everyone.
